Learning Commons – Policies & Procedures for Book Check Out

Policies & Procedures for Book Check Out

4K students come to the Learning Commons once each week for story time, songs, etc.  They do not check out library books.

Kindergarten students visit the Learning Commons once each week for story time, songs, and book check out.  They are allowed to check out one book.  They can return the book at any time.  If a student does not return their library book the next week, they are not allowed to check out an additional book until that one is returned.  They are given a book to look at and read while their classmates check out books.

First grade students visit the Learning Commons once each week for story time, songs, and book check out.  They are allowed to check out two books.  They can return these books at any time.  If a student returns only one of their books, they are allowed to check out only one more book. If a student has a library book that is more than one month overdue, that student will not be allowed to check out ANY books until the overdue book is returned.  If they do not return either of their books they are given a book to look at and read while their classmates check out books.

2nd – 5th grade students visit the Learning Commons once each week with their class for book check out.  With teacher permission, they are allowed to come to the Learning Commons at other times during the week to exchange books as needed.  These students are allowed to check out two books at a time.  They may receive special permission to have an additional book for research or project purposes.  Students may renew their books as needed, but they must bring the book to the Learning Commons to renew it.  Students who return only one book will be allowed to check out only one other book that week.  If a student has a library book that is more than one month overdue, that student will not be allowed to check out ANY books until the overdue book is returned.  Students who do not return their books can choose a book or magazine to read while their classmates check out books.

For ALL students: Overdue notices will be sent home periodically throughout the school year.  Students with lost or damaged library books will not be allowed to check out books until the lost or damaged book has been paid for in the Learning Commons.  Students with missing, lost or damaged books will have their report cards held in the Learning Commons after the first semester and until the library fines are paid or lost books are returned.

We DO NOT charge any type of late fees for overdue library books
